Sailaway v1.1.04 and World Editor v1.0.06

Hey Pioneers!

There have been a whole boat load of new fixes and improvements that have gone into both Sailaway and the World Editor.
We have also added a new voting system for edits made using the World Editor.

Sailaway v1.1.04
  • Added about 50,000 new buoys and lights from the OpenSeaMap database, including the ones that were registered as a building instead of a singlepoint node.
  • Yellow lights where imported from the OpenSeaMap database as white.
  • The height of the light beacons was previously incorrect.
  • Fixed glitches on the teak deck of the catamaran.
  • Toggling through the camera positions would skip the helmsman position.
  • Camera was not stable when a line was selected while sailing in tall waves.
  • World edits are now indicated with a white rectangle in the map.
  • World edits have an info panel that is accessible by pressing the white “i” in the map. The info panel offers the opportunity to contact the creator and/or report the edit.

World Editor v1.0.06
  • Deactivate function has been removed.
  • In World Edit list, the text “deactivated” is shown when an edit has been downvoted.
  • Deselecting an 3D object is now possible. When you add a new 3D object when nothing is selected it is possible to remove an OSM building without selecting a 3D model file.

Sailaway Update V1.0.12 – A new boat and some fixes!

Hey Pioneers!

It’s been awhile but hopefully what I have to share today is worth the wait. First off, big news, it’s a new boat! A beautiful 32′ Offshore Racer with hydrofoils, inspired by the Figaro Beneteau 3.

We’ve also fixed a boatload of bugs and as some you may already noted we’ve made a change to leave the offline sailing penalty in the players hands. Now the organizer of the event is in control whether that penalty is on or off.

Full Patch notes

  • Added the new hydrofoil 32′ Offshore Racer.
  • Changed routines for particles, floatation, boat friction and boat stability to accommodate hydrofoils.
  • Boat names were sometimes partially occluded by the hull of the boat.
  • Small bugs in displaying lines that are being controlled.
  • The list of lines to be controlled with the Q/E keys no longer shows trim lines for sails that aren’t raised except their halyard or furl line).
  • Helping hand button no longer pulls lines of sails that aren’t raised.
  • Helping hand now says: Easing genoa halyard from 100 to 0% to make the genoa more round.
  • Improved autofocus feature.
  • Saving and restoring the size of the navigation window sometimes resulted in wrong sizes and wrong positions.
  • Extended the theoretical global sailing area from S80 – N80 degrees to S89 – N89 degrees.
  • The penalty for offline sailing in long distance races and challenges can now be set by the organizer of the event.
  • The color of foils were not copied onto the boat when a Steam workshop item was applied.

We are still working away hard on the map editor and we’ll giving you more information on how you can influence the direction of this in an upcoming update.

If you have a bug you’d like to report from this update, please follow the guide for ‘How to report a bug’ and post a new thread in the Bug Reporting Forum.

Sailaway Update V1.0.09 – Sharing your voyages with ease!

Hello Pioneers!

Since our last update opened up challenges to everyone, there have been plenty created which has meant we needed to divide these up a bit better to make things easier to find. In addition, we have also made it possible to share voyages from your library with other sailors so if you have a good trip saved now is the time to share it with others!

This update includes the following fixes/improvements:

  • The Challenges menu is now split into Official, Long, Medium and Short challenges.
  • The Races menu is now split into Official (upcoming only), User Created (upcoming only) and Past Races.
  • Both the Challenge and Race menus now show the total distance of the course.
  • Both the Challenge, Race and Voyages menus now have a search box.
  • Saved voyages can now be shared; shared voyages will now appear in the Voyages menu under Activities.
  • Voyages will also show their total distance
  • The shader for the map and trim tab of the navigation window has been modified to support older versions of DirectX and OpenGL, this should allow older hardware to see the previous map update changes that were made.
  • Anchored boats should now stay in place.
  • Player created badges should now display properly on players boats.
  • Skill level preset has now been moved to its correct place under ‘Settings for all your boats’.
  • Adjusted the offline sailing routines so that online sailing is more worthwhile.

Work is ongoing on a new boat and we can’t wait to share some more details on this in the near future!

Happy Sailing,

The Sailaway Team

Sailaway Update V1.0.06 – Some more fixes and improvements

Hello Pioneers!

There has been a few small hot fixes silently deployed since we released v.1.0 of Sailaway and we have just released another one to tidy up some issues that have been reported since.

This update includes the following fixes/improvements:

  • When loading a boat that had the auto navigation set to “follow the laid out track” or was sailing in a challenge, the position was not updated correctly as the last auto-sail update by the server or the last saved position when you left the boat was only minutes ago. This should no longer happen.
  • A slider has been added to the video settings to adjust the field of view of the camera (default is 70 degrees).
  • The fog density at which stars are becoming blurry has been increased slightly.
  • The playback of the audio clip for flapping sails was restarted multiple times per second instead of playing it to the end and then looping to the beginning again.
  • Updated to the latest stable Unity release. This should fix a bug that occurs when using Airplay.

If you have a bug you’d like to report, please follow the guide for ‘How to report a bug’ and post a new thread in the Bug Reporting Forum.

Sailaway Update V.1.0 – Sailing out of Early Access

Hello Pioneers!

10 months ago we released Sailaway into Early Access so that we could spend some time improving the simulator while allowing people to play and provide feedback at the same time.

The response during this time has been great, many of the suggestions that were requested have been implemented and we have plenty more of them on our wishlist that we hope to get to one day.

Version 1.0 of Sailaway doesn’t mean we are finished with development, it just means we have reached a place where we feel the feature set means it is ready to no longer be classed as Early Access.

Thanks to everyone that has provided feedback and support so far, we hope you continue to do the same as we move forward into this next chapter of Sailaway’s development.

v.1.0 Patch Notes

Improved Terrain Textures
We have been wanting to improve the textures for land in Sailaway for a long time and we know it has been a much requested feature by lots of our players so it is great to finally be able to roll out this improvement as we hit 1.0.

Landmarks
In addition to adding textures to the terrain in Sailaway we have also started to populate it with buildings by syncing with data provided by OpenStreetMap. While this data is not yet 100% complete for the entire planet it does start to fill out the most popular areas where data exists and as their data improves so does ours.

We have started to manually place some iconic landmarks, such things as the Statue of Liberty, the Golden Gate Bridge and the Sydney Opera House are now all visible. We hope to add to this list as suitable models become available.

Improvements/Bug Fixes

  • Improved the water level in the Great Lakes.
  • Improved water levels around Sydney Harbour, Melbourne and Dutch coast.
  • 2 new challenges have been added.
  • New Landmarks: Statue of Liberty, Golden Gate Bridge, Sydney Opera
  • House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Transamerica Pyramid, Freedom Tower.
  • Boat speed is now 0 when anchored.
  • Distant lighthouses are no longer rendered white.
  • Distant buoys appeared to float on a layer of fog
  • Improved handling of some back-end data to reduce possible freezes.
  • On and Offline boats are now a different colour on the map.
  • Fixed various Japanese related localisation issues.
  • Various world map graphical fixes.
  • The race course will now show for all Race Team crew members.
  • Added check to new user email entry to catch possible email mismatch.
  • Further minor hotkey fixes.
  • Fixed certain achievements not unlocking.

If you have a bug you’d like to report, please follow the guide for ‘How to report a bug’ and post a new thread in the Bug Reporting Forum.

With Sailaway’s exit from Early Access we expect new sailors to be starting to take their first steps into the world of sailing, we hope you will all make them feel welcome!

Happy Sailing,

The Sailaway Team
