Sailaway Update V.0.9.035 – Race creation is now open to everyone, Race Teams and some bug fixes!

Hello Pioneers!

Player Created Races has been a feature tested by a small group of dedicated players for a while now and they have been busy creating all manner of races for players to enjoy.

Player Created Races

From today we are opening up the system used to create these races to all Sailaway players to get as much feedback as possible before we exit Early Access, if you are interested in creating races for others please visit the following page on our website for instruction on how to get started: https://www.sailawaysimulator.com/player-created-races/

Race Teams

A new feature with this latest update is the ability for players to create a Race Team, these teams are a way for a group of sailors to make their racing teams more official.

Richard explains how this feature works below:

“Your current team is shown in your user profile just underneath your profile picture. If you are not a member of a team yet, you see the button “Show Teams”.
Clicking that ‘Show Teams” button will bring up a window with a list of all active teams.

Underneath that list is a button called “Add new team”. But, becoming a team captain does not come lightly. The button will only appear when you have won at least 3 races with 4 or more competitors.

Clicking the “Add new team” button will bring up a new window where you can enter the name of your team, a description and set the team logo. You will automatically be added as leader of this team. This should show in your user profile. After that you can invite other people to join your team. These people can be assigned a role. The Leader, Co-Leader and Manager can invite/uninvite sailors and edit the team data itself. The Senior can only invite/uninvite people. And the Sailor can just sail.

After you have set up your team, you can go to the main menu, to the boats section. In the right top corner there is a drop down called “Add extra boat”. By selecting one of the options that start with “Team:” a team boat is added. Only the original creator of the team can do this. But once a boat is added, it will show up in the boat menu of all members of your team. And all of them can jump on board by selecting the team boat. There is no need to invite them when you want to go sailing.

The leader, co-leader and manager can edit the appearance of the team boats.

Finally, the order of the tams in the window that shows all team is not random or alphabetical. Teams are ordered by their team rank. The best team will appear on top. Winning races will improve the rank of your team.”

There is a large amount of new player shared functionality with the inclusion of this feature so don’t be surprised if things don’t quite work as they should first time, please report any bugs with this feature in the usual way.

Bug Fixes
  • Fixed an issue where telltales on the Folkboat would remain visible when the sails were lowered.
  • Sailors who completed the recent Canary Islands Long race should now have the correct badge.
  • Fixed some issues with leaderboard waypoint distances.
  • Fixed an issue with deck anti slip and deck cabin textures not being loaded correct from the Workshop.

Sailaway Update V.0.9.030 – More stats, more sail data and extra boat instances!

Hello Pioneers!

It has been great to see all the creations you have been sharing on our new Steam Workshop, we have been very impressed with the designs so far so keep up the good work!

Some of you may of noticed that others might not be seeing your creations (even though it looks fine on your own screen) and we have found the cause of this issue and fixed it with this update. However, livery creators will need to re-upload their designs again once they have this update for it to take effect, apologies for this but it should work as designed from this point.

This new update adds various layers of extra detail we have been wanting to make visible for a while now, hopefully it helps show the kind of things Sailaway is simulating.

More Statistics

The Activity tab in the User Profile has been replaced with a new Stats tab, this new tab contains lots of new information about your time in Sailaway. It includes things like:

  • Date you started in Sailaway.
  • Total miles sailed.
  • Max miles a day (when, where and with what boat).
  • Number of tutorials, challenges, races completed.
  • A selection of the above stats are also available on a per boat basis.

Please note that some of these statistics are new so will only start to track from when this update goes live. In the case of total miles sailed your existing miles are added to the new totals generated from each boat.

More Sailing Information

On the navigation panel you will see a new tab ‘Info’, this tab shows a range of data/information from the simulation. Such as:

  • Amount of windshadow
  • Force of the waves pushing the boat back/forward
  • Strength of weather helm
  • Heel in degrees
  • Nose dive degrees
  • Sideways drift
  • Current strength and direction
  • Number of trim adjustments made since being online
  • Time since you came online

Per Sail:

  • Curve depth
  • Sail curve pulled forward
  • Top closed/opened
  • Total efficiency of the sail
  • Sideways heel/drift force in the sail

Extra Boat Instances

With this update players will be able to add an extra instance of each of the boats currently available in Sailaway, this means you can now have 2 of each boats to use in separate activities.
To add an extra version of a boat visit the Boat menu and select the new option in the top right of this screen.

Improved Map Voyage Logs

The boat voyage log in the map has had a few improvements:

  • Longer history (was 62 days, now 2 years)
  • 2 entries per day + an entry when a waypoint is reached or a race buoy is rounded
  • Info panel when the mouse hovers over a log entry that displays:
    • Date and time of the entry
    • Position
    • True Wind Direction
    • True Wind Speed
    • Heading
    • Speed
    • Course Over Ground
    • Speed Over Ground

Other Fixes/Improvements

  • Navigation panel now resizes automatically when the screen resizes.
  • Fixed telltales sometimes flickering.
  • When uploading a texture that is bigger than 2MB an error message is now shown.
  • Added option to reset graphics settings on startup for people having issues with settings: LeftCtrl + LeftShift + C will delete all preferences and reset the graphics quality and resolution to the minimum settings.

As always If you have a bug you’d like to report, please follow the guide for ‘How to report a bug’and post a new thread in the Bug Reporting Forum.

Happy Sailing,

Sailaway Update V.0.9.028 – New Boat & Steam Workshop support for boat customisation is live!

Hello Pioneers!

This update brings two big new features to the world of Sailaway, the first is a brand new boat and the second is integration of Steam Workshop to allow players to create and share their boat customisation with others.

New Boat – Nordic Folkboat

The goal with this new boat was to create something which was easier to learn to sail in, with only the one line to worry about the Nordic Folkboat had all the character the team wanted from such a boat.

In the near future this boat will replace the cruiser that exists in the tutorials so that learning to sail in Sailaway becomes even more straightforward.
As always with new boats feedback is appreciated, if you come across any issues with this please let us know in the forums.

Steam Workshop – Boat Customisation

It is now possible to save your boat customisation options out to Steam Workshop so that you can share them with other skippers and we have also added the option for you to upload your own textures on various parts of the boat for additional creative control!

Boat customisation is in the same place as before: Main Menu > Boat > Edit boat customisation. In the new Steam Workshop menu on the left you can select a new boat livery from any published on the Workshop or save your current configuration to a new item on the Workshop to share with others.

All current liveries previously made by the Sailaway Team are already in place on the workshop so they are still available to use.

Integrating Steam Workshop into an online game such as Sailaway was no easy task and while we have been testing this internally we would appreciate any feedback from yourselves on any issues you come across so we can improve this feature as we move forward, this should be treated as the initial integration of the this feature.

Here’s one we made earlier!

Here’s a quick video to show you how to add your own images. It only shows the sails but ALL the textures on all available boats are editable! Enjoy! We can’t wait to see your creations!

Additional Changes
  • Tips should now only display for lines you actually have on the boat you are sailing.
  • Fixed an issue where reflections would flash on the boat hull.
  • Made some adjustments on how wind animations are handled on the world map.
  • Made some additional adjustments to a few hotkeys that had issues.
  • Custom images can now be uploaded for Player Created Races.

As always If you have a bug you’d like to report, please follow the guide for ‘how to report a bug’and post a new thread in the Bug Reporting Forum.

Happy Sailing,
